Do you need a travel adapter in North Korea?

In North Korea mainly type C and type F outlets are used. Some of these are similar to what you're used to in the Netherlands and Belgium (type C and type F), but there are also differences. So check in advance whether your plug fits, or bring a suitable travel adapter to be safe.

If you use a European plug at home, it's handy to also check our pages on travel adapter Netherlands, travel adapter Belgium and the travel adapter type C and travel adapter type F. This way you can quickly see what is different about the situation in North Korea.

Which plugs and outlets are used in North Korea?

In North Korea you'll mainly encounter type C and type F. You'll also see similar plug types in countries such as China and South Korea.

That's why it's smart to look not only at the country, but also at the plug type. If you travel in this region more often, a travel adapter type C and travel adapter type F or directly a universal world adapter is often more useful.

Do you need a voltage converter in North Korea?

In most cases not. North Korea uses 220 volts and 50 Hz, almost the same as the 230 volts and 50 Hz in the Netherlands and Belgium. Your devices therefore simply work on the local mains voltage. You only need a travel adapter that adjusts the shape of your plug, no voltage converter.

To be safe, always check the label on your charger or device. If it says 100-240V, the device is suitable for worldwide use and you only need the right plug shape.

Why a world adapter is handy for North Korea

A world adapter is often the most practical choice for North Korea. You then know for sure that you're prepared if you come across several hotels, apartments or workplaces during your trip. Especially on a round trip you don't want to keep having to think about adapters or local solutions.

This is even more true if you combine North Korea with other destinations in the region. Think for example of China and South Korea. In many of those countries you'll encounter similar plug types.
