Travel plug Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ

Travelling to Thailand? Don't forget to bring a travel plug for Thailand so you can safely charge all your devices. In Thailand they use type A, B, C, F and O sockets. The mains voltage is 220 volts at 50 Hz, which is almost the same as the voltage in the Netherlands. So you don't need a voltage converter, but for some sockets you do need the right travel adapter.

Which plugs are used in Thailand

In Thailand you will come across several plug types:

  • two flat pins, widely used for small devices.
  • three flat pins, one of which is an earth pin.
  • two round pins, as in the Netherlands.
  • earthed version with two round pins, also used in the Netherlands.
  • unique Thai plug with three round pins, which is often compatible with type C and F.

Dutch plugs of type C and F fit into type C, F and O sockets, but not into type A and B. Because the connections in Thailand can vary greatly per hotel or region, it is wise to bring a travel plug for Thailand or a universal travel adapter.

Do you need a voltage converter in Thailand?

The mains voltage in Thailand is 220 volts at 50 Hz, almost the same as the Netherlands (230 volts). This means you do not need a voltage converter. To be sure, check the label of your device: if it says โ€œInput 100โ€“240V, 50/60Hzโ€, you can use it anywhere in the world. Devices without dual voltage (such as some hair dryers or shavers) are better used only with a converter.

Charging safely during your trip through Thailand

Because the quality of sockets in Thailand can vary, a good, earthed travel plug is recommended. Choose a model with surge protection and USB or USB-C ports, so you can charge several devices at once. Especially in tropical conditions, a heat-resistant adapter is a safe choice.

Universal travel adapter or specific travel plug Thailand

If you are only travelling to Thailand, you can choose a Europe to Thailand adapter that works with type A and B. If you are taking a tour through Asia or visiting several countries, such as Vietnam, Cambodia or Indonesia, a universal travel adapter is more convenient. It fits in more than 150 countries worldwide and saves you from having to bring several adapters.
