Travel plug Afghanistan 🇦🇫

Are you travelling to Afghanistan, for work or for a longer stay? Then it's smart to check in advance whether your plugs and chargers will simply work there. In Afghanistan, plug and socket types C and F are mainly used. The mains voltage is given by consulted sources as 220 or 230 volts at 50 Hz, which in practice means that devices suitable for 220–240V can usually be used without a voltage converter.

Which travel plug do you need in Afghanistan?

In Afghanistan you mainly come across type C and type F sockets. Those are the same main types you also see in many European countries. As a result, many Dutch and Belgian plugs often fit directly, especially when your devices have an ordinary Euro plug or Schuko plug.

Nevertheless, a good travel plug or world plug is handy to bring along. Not every socket is finished the same way everywhere, and if you travel through several countries you don't want to be caught out by surprises. A compact world plug then gives extra flexibility and certainty.

Do you need a world plug in Afghanistan?

For many travellers from the Netherlands and Belgium, a separate adapter for Afghanistan is often not strictly necessary, because type C and F are common there and those are compatible with many European plugs. It is, however, wise to check in advance which type of plug your device exactly has and whether your accommodations may use deviating or universal sockets.

A world plug remains a smart choice anyway if you:

  • travel via other countries
  • want to bring several devices at once
  • don't want to depend on the situation on site
  • also find USB charging options handy

Mains voltage and voltage in Afghanistan

The frequency in Afghanistan is 50 Hz. For the voltage, consulted sources indicate 220V and 230V. For most modern devices such as phone chargers, laptops, tablets and camera chargers that is no problem, because the adapter usually states 100-240V, 50/60Hz.

So always check the small print on your charger or adapter. If it only states a lower or fixed voltage, you may need a voltage converter in addition to a travel plug.

Which devices do you want to bring to Afghanistan?

Anyone travelling to Afghanistan often brings more than just a phone charger. Think of a laptop, power bank, e-reader, camera, shaver or other electronic accessories. That is precisely when it's pleasant to have one reliable solution with you that lets you carry on right away.

A good travel plug for Afghanistan is especially handy for:

  • smartphones and tablets
  • laptops and e-readers
  • cameras and battery chargers
  • travel gadgets and small electronics
