Travel plug Colombia

Are you going to Colombia and want to be sure you can simply charge your phone, laptop, camera or other devices? Then it is smart to check in advance which travel plug you need. In Colombia, sockets for type A and type B are mainly used. As a result, a regular Dutch or Belgian plug does not fit directly without an adapter. Colombia also works with 110 volts and 60 Hz.

Do you need a travel plug in Colombia?

Yes, for Colombia you usually need a travel plug. In Colombia type A and type B are common, while in the Netherlands and Belgium you are mainly used to type C and type F. As a result, an adapter is usually needed to make your own plug fit.

If you currently use a European plug at home, it is handy to also look at our pages about travel plug Netherlands, travel plug Belgium, travel plug type C and travel plug type F. That way the difference with Colombia immediately becomes clear.

Which plugs and sockets are used in Colombia?

In Colombia you will mainly come across plug type A and plug type B. Type A is also common in countries such as the USA, Canada, Japan and Mexico. Type B is also common in North and Central America.

That is why it is smart to search not only by country, but also by plug type. Those who travel more often often benefit more from a travel plug type A, a travel plug type B or directly a universal universal travel plug.

Do you need a voltage converter in Colombia?

Colombia uses 110 volts and 60 Hz. That is clearly lower than the 230 volts that is usual in the Netherlands and Belgium. For modern devices such as phones, laptops, tablets and cameras a converter is often not needed, as long as the charger is suitable for 100-240V. You can check that on the adapter or charger itself. A travel plug only changes the shape of the plug and does not convert the voltage.

If you use devices that only work on 220-240V, then a voltage converter may indeed be needed. That mainly applies to older or more powerful devices such as some hairdryers, straighteners or other non-dual-voltage equipment.

Why a universal travel plug is handy for Colombia

A universal travel plug is often the most practical choice for Colombia. You then know for sure that you are prepared if you come across different accommodations, airports or workplaces during your trip. Especially on a longer tour or business trip you do not want to depend on local adapters or unclear hotel solutions.

That applies even more if you combine Colombia with other destinations in Central and South America or North America. Think for example of the USA, Canada, Mexico, Belize, Bahamas, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda or the Dominican Republic. In many of those countries you also come across type A and/or type B.

Buying a travel plug for Colombia

A good travel plug for Colombia is compact, sturdy and easy to take with you in your hand luggage or backpack. If you are only going to Colombia, you can choose an adapter suitable for type A and type B. If you travel internationally more often, a universal travel plug is usually the smartest choice.

For many travellers Colombia is moreover not the only destination. Perhaps you combine your trip with Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Venezuela or Uruguay. Then one universal solution is often the most practical.
