Do you need a travel plug in the Comoros?

That depends a little on the type of plug of your device. In the Comoros type C and type E are used. Dutch and Belgian two-pin europlugs often already fit in type C and sometimes also in type E, but that does not apply to every plug or every situation. That is why an adapter or universal travel plug is still a safe choice.

If you currently use an earthed plug at home or do not want to take any risk, it is handy to also look at our pages about travel plug Netherlands, travel plug Belgium, travel plug type C and travel plug type E. That way you quickly see how the situation in the Comoros compares to home.

Which plugs and sockets are used in the Comoros?

In the Comoros you will mainly come across plug type C and plug type E. Type C is known in large parts of Europe and type E is also common in countries with French influence. As a result, the electricity standard in the Comoros feels reasonably familiar to many European travellers.

For example, you also come across type E in France, and type C in turn is widely spread in many European destinations such as Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy and Greece. That is why it is smart to search not only by country, but also by plug type.

Do you need a voltage converter in the Comoros?

Usually not. The voltage in the Comoros is around 220 to 230 volts at 50 Hz, which closely resembles what you are used to in the Netherlands and Belgium. For modern devices such as phones, laptops, tablets and cameras a converter is therefore usually not needed. An adapter moreover only changes the shape of the plug and does not convert the voltage.

To be sure, always check whether your charger is suitable for 100-240V. That is usually printed small on the adapter. With almost all modern USB chargers that is no problem.

Why a universal travel plug is handy for the Comoros

A universal travel plug is handy for the Comoros if you do not want any doubt about connecting your devices. Especially if you use several accommodations on the way or combine your trip with other countries, a universal adapter is often the most practical choice.

That applies even more if you combine the Comoros with other destinations in Africa or the region. Think for example of Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Morocco, Tunisia, Zambia, Zimbabwe or South Africa. Then one adapter for several situations is often the easiest.

Buying a travel plug for the Comoros

A good travel plug for the Comoros is compact, sturdy and easy to take with you in your hand luggage or backpack. If you are only going to the Comoros, you can choose an adapter that works well with type C and type E. If you travel internationally more often, a universal travel plug is usually the smartest choice.

For many travellers the Comoros is moreover not the only destination. Perhaps you combine your trip with Tanzania or a stopover via France. Then a universal solution is extra practical.
