Do you need a travel adapter in Denmark?

That depends on your plug. In Denmark, type E and type K sockets are used. Dutch plugs often work there, because the voltage is the same and type C/F plugs are frequently compatible with Danish sockets. Still, an adapter can be handy if you want to be sure everything fits properly, especially with older or non-standard sockets.

If you use a European plug at home, it's useful to also check our pages about travel adapter Netherlands, travel adapter Belgium, travel adapter type C, travel adapter type E and travel adapter type F. That way you can quickly see what is different or actually similar to the situation in Denmark.

Which plugs and sockets are used in Denmark?

In Denmark you'll mainly come across plug type E and type K. The voltage is 230 volts at 50 Hz, just like in the Netherlands and much of the rest of Europe. As a result, you usually don't have to worry about voltage, but you do about the physical fit of the plug.

You'll also see type E in countries like France, Belgium, Algeria and Tunisia. This makes the situation in Denmark feel quite familiar to many European travelers, even though type K is less well known.

Do you need a voltage converter in Denmark?

Usually not. Denmark uses 230 volts and 50 Hz, which matches the Netherlands, Belgium and many other European countries. For modern devices such as phones, laptops, tablets and cameras, a converter is therefore normally not needed. A travel adapter also only changes the shape of the plug and does not convert the voltage.

To be safe, always check whether your charger is suitable for 100-240V. This is usually printed in small text on the adapter. With virtually all modern USB chargers this is no problem. This check is especially handy if you later travel on to countries with a different voltage.

Why a universal travel adapter is handy for Denmark

A universal travel adapter is handy for Denmark if you want to travel without doubt and don't want to figure out whether your plug fits properly in every hotel, holiday home or apartment. Especially if you use multiple accommodations along the way, that's convenient.

That applies even more if you combine Denmark with other countries in Europe. Think for example of Germany, Sweden, Czech Republic, France, Belgium or the United Kingdom. Then one adapter for multiple situations is often the easiest.

Buying a travel adapter for Denmark

A good travel adapter for Denmark is compact, sturdy and easy to take along in your hand luggage or backpack. If you're only going to Denmark, a simple adapter is often enough, or even no adapter at all, depending on your plug. If you travel internationally more often, a universal travel adapter is usually the smartest choice.

For many travelers, Denmark is also not the only destination. Maybe you're doing a road trip through Scandinavia, combining the trip with Sweden, or also going to Germany and France. Then a universal solution is extra practical.
