Travel plug Gabon

Going to Gabon on holiday, a round trip, a business trip or a nature trip? Then it's smart to check in advance whether you need a travel adapter. In Gabon, type C and type E sockets are used. The mains voltage is 230 volts and the frequency is 50 Hz. That's close to what you're used to in the Netherlands, but because of the combination of different socket types it's good not to simply assume that everything always fits.

Which sockets are used in Gabon?

In Gabon, type C and type E sockets are used. Type C has two round pins and is known in many European countries. Type E is similar, but additionally has an earth pin in the socket. For Dutch travellers that feels partly familiar, but it doesn't automatically mean that every plug fits perfectly everywhere.

If you're looking for more explanation about the different socket types, the pages about travel adapter type C and travel adapter type E are also relevant. They quickly show you why Gabon is not a completely straightforward destination for Dutch travellers when it comes to power and plugs.

Do you need a travel adapter in Gabon?

Sometimes yes. In Gabon you can come across sockets in which your Dutch plug fits directly, but also connections where an adapter is handier or necessary. So it depends on exactly where you stay and which type of socket is present there.

So if you want to be sure you can charge everywhere, a universal travel adapter or travel adapter for Gabon is the safest choice. Especially when you travel between different accommodations or don't know in advance which type of connection is available there, this prevents unnecessary hassle.

Do Dutch plugs fit in Gabon?

Dutch plugs fit partially in Gabon. In type C sockets that usually works. With type E it depends on the kind of plug and the design of the socket. That means you sometimes get lucky, but during a trip you'd rather not depend on that.

Especially if you want to charge devices such as your phone, laptop, camera or power bank daily, it's smarter to simply bring an adapter. Then you can be sure you don't have to look for a solution on the spot.

Do you need a voltage converter in Gabon?

No, you usually don't need a voltage converter. In Gabon the standard voltage is 230 volts at 50 Hz. In practice that's comparable to the Netherlands. For modern devices that's normally no problem, certainly not if the charger states it's suitable for 100-240V and 50/60Hz.

This applies, for example, to phones, laptops, tablets, camera chargers and power banks. Before departure, however, always check the label of your device, especially if you bring older electronics or single-voltage equipment.

Which travel adapter is best for Gabon?

For Gabon a universal travel adapter is usually the handiest choice. With it you're prepared for locations where your Dutch plug doesn't fit well directly and you don't have to gamble per accommodation on whether you can connect everything. For travellers who travel internationally more often, that's often more practical than a separate adapter for one country.

If you travel more often in Africa or combine multiple destinations, pages such as travel adapter Morocco, travel adapter Egypt and travel adapter Ethiopia can also be relevant.

Buying a travel adapter for Gabon

Are you going to Gabon soon? Then it's wise to make sure in advance that you bring a suitable adapter. Because Gabon uses type C and E sockets, a Dutch plug doesn't always fit everywhere as a matter of course. With a good universal travel adapter you avoid surprises and you can be sure you can use your most important devices.
