Travel plug Latvia

For Latvia, as a Dutch traveller you're usually fine. The country uses 230 volts and 50 Hz, just like the Netherlands, and the plug types used are C and F. In practice this usually simply means: plug in and charge.

Do you need a travel adapter in Latvia?

Usually not. Latvia uses the same standard as the Netherlands, namely type C and F at 230 volts and 50 Hz. As a result, Dutch plugs normally just fit into Latvian sockets.

That makes Latvia one of the easier destinations within Europe when it comes to power and charging.

Which sockets does Latvia use?

In Latvia you'll mainly come across type C and F. For Dutch travellers this changes little, because both types are compatible with what you use at home.

Whether you bring a phone charger, laptop, camera or electric toothbrush, chances are you can simply plug it in without an adapter.

Do you need a voltage converter for Latvia?

No, not in normal situations. The voltage in Latvia is 230 volts and the frequency 50 Hz, exactly as in the Netherlands. Modern devices therefore usually work without any adjustment.

When in doubt, always check the label of your device, but for most travellers this isn't a concern.

When is a universal travel adapter handy after all?

For Latvia itself a universal travel adapter is usually not needed. Still, it can be handy if you travel often, combine several countries or like to keep a fixed travel adapter in your bag for other destinations. In that case a universal solution is often more practical than figuring out what you need again for each country.

Practical for a city break, workation or tour

Whether you visit Riga for a few days, stay on the Baltic coast or make a longer tour through the Baltic states, when it comes to plugs and power you have little to worry about in Latvia. That's pleasant, because it means you can cross one travel item off your list straight away.

Buy a travel adapter for Latvia or not?

For most Dutch travellers that isn't necessary. Your equipment usually just works directly in Latvia, without an extra adapter or converter. Only if you also visit other destinations or like to travel prepared can a universal travel adapter still be a handy addition.
