Travel plug Liechtenstein

Going to Liechtenstein for a holiday, winter sports or a business trip? Then it's smart to check in advance whether you need a travel adapter. In Liechtenstein, sockets of type C and type J are used. The mains voltage is 230 volts and the frequency is 50 Hz. Type C usually fits, but for the Swiss type J you almost always need an adapter.

Do you need a travel adapter in Liechtenstein?

Not always. Liechtenstein uses type J, but type C plugs are often compatible with it. As a result, many Dutch chargers and smaller plugs can simply work. If you use an earthed Dutch type F plug, an adapter is more sensible.

Why Liechtenstein is just a little different from many other European countries

At first glance Liechtenstein strongly resembles the Netherlands in terms of power supply, and that's largely true. Still, the country differs through its use of type J. Some travellers notice little of this, others notice it clearly. That mainly depends on what kind of plug you bring.

Do your devices just work there?

Yes, usually. The voltage and frequency are the same as in the Netherlands. For modern devices such as phone chargers, laptops, camera chargers and tablets this generally causes no problem. With Liechtenstein it's therefore mainly about the physical fit of the plug, not about major technical differences.

When is a universal travel adapter handy?

If you travel with several devices, also use earthed plugs or simply want to be sure everything fits, a universal travel adapter is a handy solution. Especially if you combine Liechtenstein with other destinations, one universal adapter is often more practical than separate adapters.

For whom is this especially relevant?

This page is especially handy for travellers who set off with a laptop, hairdryer, chargers or other everyday electronics. On a short trip you sometimes hardly notice the difference, but if you travel for work or a longer stay it's pleasant to know in advance whether your gear is immediately usable.

Buy a travel adapter for Liechtenstein or not?

That depends on your plug. For many small non-earthed plugs an adapter isn't always needed. If you'd rather not take any risk or also bring larger plugs, a travel adapter is smart. That way you can be sure you won't face any surprises.
