Travel plug Mali 🇲🇱

Traveling to Mali? Good news: Dutch plugs usually fit directly into the Malian sockets. Mali uses type C and E, the same plug types as many other French colonial countries, and these are compatible with most Dutch appliances.

Do you need a travel adapter for Mali?

Usually not, but it depends on your plug.

Mali uses two plug types:

  • Type C: two round pins, the same type as in the Netherlands. Your Dutch plug fits directly into this.
  • Type E: two round pins with an earth pin in the socket, the same type as in France and Belgium.

Most Dutch chargers are type C or F (Schuko). Type C plugs fit without problems into both Malian sockets. Type F plugs also fit, but do not always make contact with the earthing of type E. For laptops, phones and most chargers this makes no difference.

Strictly speaking you do not need a travel adapter for Mali, but there are situations where one is recommended, especially with appliances that need to be earthed.

Which type of socket does Mali have?

Mali uses two plug types:

  • Type C: two round pins, unearthed. The same type as in the Netherlands and the rest of continental Europe
  • Type E: two round pins with an earth pin in the socket. The same type as in France, Belgium and Morocco

Due to the French colonial history, type E is the standard in modern accommodations, while type C is also common. Both types are compatible with Dutch type C plugs.

When is a universal adapter still handy in Mali?

Although a travel adapter for Mali is not strictly necessary, a universal adapter can still be useful in a number of cases:

  • you travel on after Mali to countries with other plug types, such as Senegal (type C, D, E, K) or England (type G)
  • you have appliances with a Dutch type F (Schuko) plug with thick edges that do not always fit into type E sockets
  • you want extra USB and USB-C ports to charge several devices at once
  • you want to be sure of an earthed connection for sensitive equipment

The Remodius Universal Travel Adapter works in Mali and in 220+ other countries, with multiple USB ports so you can charge your phone, laptop and camera at the same time.

Power and voltage in Mali

The power supply in Mali is virtually the same as in the Netherlands.

  • Voltage: 220 volts
  • Frequency: 50 Hz
  • Compatible with Dutch appliances: yes

So you do not need a voltage converter. Your phone, laptop, camera and other devices work without problems.

Do keep in mind that the power supply in Mali is not always stable. Power outages occur regularly, especially outside Bamako and in remote areas. A good power bank is therefore always a sensible addition.

Buying a travel adapter for Mali

Do you want to travel carefree and be optimally prepared? Then choose a universal adapter that you can use not only in Mali, but also in other countries.

Are you travelling on after Mali, for example to Senegal (type C, D, E, K), Burkina Faso (type C and E) or Morocco (type C and E)? Then a universal adapter is a smart investment. The Remodius Universal Travel Adapter works in 220+ countries, with multiple USB ports and a compact size that fits perfectly in your hand luggage.
