Travel plug Taiwan

Travelling to Taiwan for a holiday, tour or business trip? Then it is smart to check in advance whether you need a travel plug. In Taiwan, sockets of type A and B are used. The mains voltage is 110 volts and the frequency is 60 Hz. That clearly differs from the Netherlands, where type C and F are common and 230 volts is used.

Which sockets are used in Taiwan?

In Taiwan, type A and type B sockets are used. These are the same types you also see a lot in North America. For Dutch travellers, these connections are not directly compatible with the plugs that are standard here.

If you are looking for more explanation about the different socket types, the pages about travel plug type A and travel plug type B are also relevant. They quickly show you why you really need an adapter for Taiwan when you leave from the Netherlands.

Do you need a travel plug in Taiwan?

Yes, in Taiwan you need a travel plug. The type A and B sockets are not suitable for Dutch type C and F plugs. Without an adapter you therefore cannot connect your chargers and devices directly.

That is precisely why a universal travel adapter or travel adapter for Taiwan is the safest choice. Especially if you want to charge your phone, laptop or power bank immediately on arrival, it is nice not to depend on what is locally available.

Do Dutch plugs fit in Taiwan?

No, Dutch plugs normally do not fit in Taiwan. In the Netherlands you usually use plug type C or F, while in Taiwan type A and B are the standard. Without an adapter you therefore cannot connect your devices.

That makes Taiwan different from destinations where European plugs do fit directly. Precisely because the difference is immediately clear, it is wise to bring your adapter in advance instead of looking for one only at the airport or on location.

Do you need a voltage converter in Taiwan?

Often yes. The standard voltage in Taiwan is 110 volts, while in the Netherlands 230 volts is common. In addition, the frequency in Taiwan is 60 Hz instead of 50 Hz. For devices that are only suitable for 220-240V this can be a problem.

For many modern chargers of phones, laptops, tablets and cameras this is less of an issue, because they often state that they are suitable for 100-240V and 50/60Hz. In that case you only need an adapter. So always check the label on your device or charger before you leave.

Which plug is best for Taiwan?

For Taiwan, a universal travel adapter is usually the handiest choice. With it you are prepared for type A and B and you can often also manage at other distant destinations. Especially if you travel often, a universal solution is more practical than buying separate adapters every time.

If you travel in Asia more often, pages such as travel plug Japan, travel plug China and travel plug Vietnam can also be relevant if you combine several destinations.

Buying a travel plug for Taiwan

Are you going to Taiwan soon? Then it is wise to make sure in advance that you bring the right adapter. Because Taiwan uses type A and B sockets and the voltage is 110 volts, a Dutch plug is not sufficient and for some devices you also have to pay extra attention to voltage compatibility.
