Which sockets are used in Uganda?

In Uganda, type G sockets are used. This type has three rectangular pins in a triangular shape and is known from the United Kingdom, among others. For Dutch travelers this is not a compatible socket type.

If you're looking for more explanation about this type of connection, the page about travel plug type G is also relevant. It quickly shows you why you really need an adapter for Uganda when leaving from the Netherlands.

Do you need a travel adapter in Uganda?

Yes, in Uganda you need a travel adapter. Dutch plugs of type C and F do not fit in type G sockets. Without an adapter you therefore can't connect your chargers and devices directly.

That's exactly why a universal adapter or travel adapter for Uganda is the safest choice. Especially if you stay in various locations or want to use your devices right after arrival, you don't want to depend on local solutions.

Do Dutch plugs fit in Uganda?

No, Dutch plugs normally don't fit in Uganda. In the Netherlands you usually use plug type C and F, while in Uganda type G is the standard. That means you can't use your devices directly without an adapter.

That makes Uganda a destination for which you really need to think about your power supply in advance. Especially during a safari or tour, it's nice not to have to search for a suitable adapter on location.

Do you need a voltage converter in Uganda?

Usually not. Uganda uses 240 volts at 50 Hz. That's close to the Dutch standard of 230 volts at 50 Hz. For many modern devices, such as phones, laptops and camera chargers, that's no problem, certainly not if the label says they're suitable for 100-240V and 50/60Hz.

It does remain wise to check the label of your device before you leave. Especially with older or single-voltage devices, it's smart to be sure they're suitable for use at 240 volts.

Which travel adapter is best for Uganda?

For Uganda a universal adapter is usually the most convenient choice. With it you're prepared for type G and can often also get by in other countries that use the same plug shape. That's especially handy if you travel internationally more often and prefer to bring one flexible solution.

Traveling more often to destinations with type G, then pages such as travel adapter United Kingdom, travel adapter Tanzania and travel adapter Ireland can also be relevant if you combine multiple destinations.
