Which sockets are used in Chad?

In Chad, type D, type E and type F sockets are used. Type D has three round pins in a triangular shape. Type E and F are more similar to European connections and are more familiar to Dutch travellers. Precisely because Chad uses several socket types, it is wise not to assume a single standard connection.

If you are looking for more explanation about the different socket types, the pages about travel plug type D, travel plug type E and travel plug type F are also relevant. They quickly show you why Chad is not a fully plug-and-play destination for Dutch travellers.

Do you need a travel plug in Chad?

Yes, in most cases you need a travel plug in Chad. That is not because all sockets are different, but because type D also occurs there. Dutch plugs do fit into type E and F, but not into type D. So if you arrive at a place where only type D is available, you cannot connect anything without an adapter.

That is precisely why a universal travel adapter or separate travel adapter for Chad is the safest choice. Especially when you travel between different accommodations or do not know exactly which sockets are present there, this prevents unnecessary hassle.

Do Dutch plugs fit in Chad?

Dutch plugs fit in Chad partially. In type E and F sockets that usually works, but not in type D. That means you sometimes get lucky, but during a trip you would rather not depend on that.

Especially if you want to charge devices such as your phone, laptop, camera or power bank every day, it is smarter to simply bring an adapter. Then you can be sure that you do not have to look for a solution on the spot.

Do you need a voltage converter in Chad?

No, in most cases you do not need a voltage converter. In Chad the standard voltage is 220 volts at 50 Hz. That is close to the Dutch standard of 230 volts at 50 Hz. For many modern devices that difference is no problem, certainly not if the label states that they are suitable for 100-240V and 50/60Hz.

This applies, for example, to phones, laptops, tablets and camera chargers. Before departure, always check the label of your device, though, especially if you bring older or single-voltage equipment.

Which travel plug is best for Chad?

For Chad, a universal travel adapter is usually the handiest choice. With it you are prepared for locations where type D is used and you do not have to gamble per accommodation on whether your Dutch plug fits. For travellers who travel internationally more often, that is often more practical than a separate adapter for one country.

If you travel in Africa more often or combine several destinations, pages such as travel plug Egypt, travel plug Tanzania and travel plug South Africa can also be relevant.

Buying a travel plug for Chad

Are you going to Chad soon? Then it is wise to make sure in advance that you bring a suitable adapter. Because Chad uses type D, E and F sockets, a Dutch plug does not always fit everywhere. With a good universal travel adapter you avoid surprises and you can be sure that you can use your most important devices.
