Which sockets are used in the Czech Republic?

In the Czech Republic, type C and type E sockets are used. Type C is the well-known plug with two round pins. Type E is similar, but additionally has an earth pin in the socket. This system also occurs in other parts of Europe.

If you are looking for more explanation about the different socket types, the pages about travel plug type C and travel plug type E are also relevant. They quickly show you why the Czech Republic is usually a simple destination for Dutch travellers when it comes to power and plugs.

Do you need a travel plug in the Czech Republic?

No, in most cases you do not need a travel plug in the Czech Republic. The voltage and frequency are the same as in the Netherlands and Dutch plugs in practice usually just work in Czech sockets. Especially for chargers of phones, laptops and other modern devices this generally poses no problems.

It is good to know, though, that type E is officially the standard. In practice that works fine for many Dutch devices, but it can differ slightly per plug and per socket, especially with earthed plugs.

Do Dutch plugs fit in the Czech Republic?

Yes, Dutch plugs usually just fit in the Czech Republic. That applies in particular to type C plugs and in many cases also to type F plugs. As a result you can usually connect your phone charger, laptop charger or other commonly used devices directly.

For some older or tighter sockets it can be smart to check in advance which type of plug your device exactly has. But for most travellers from the Netherlands, the Czech Republic is not a difficult destination on this point.

Do you need a voltage converter in the Czech Republic?

No, in most cases you do not need a voltage converter. In the Czech Republic the standard voltage is 230 volts at 50 Hz, just like in the Netherlands. For modern devices that is therefore normally no problem at all.

This applies, for example, to phones, tablets, laptops, camera chargers and power banks. If you want extra certainty, you can always check the label of your device before departure, but for most electronics that is not necessary.

Which plug is best for the Czech Republic?

For the Czech Republic only, you usually do not need an extra adapter. However, if you are travelling through several countries in Europe or combining the Czech Republic with destinations outside Europe, a universal travel adapter can still be handy. That way you do not have to figure out each time which type of socket you need.

If you travel in Europe more often, pages such as travel plug Germany, travel plug Austria and travel plug France can be partly comparable or relevant in terms of system.

Buying a travel plug for the Czech Republic

Are you going to the Czech Republic soon? In most cases you do not need to bring a separate adapter, because Dutch plugs usually just work there. It does remain smart to check in advance which devices you are bringing and whether they fit well into earthed type E sockets.
