Do you need a travel adapter in Djibouti?

That depends on the type of plug on your device. In Djibouti, type C and type E are used. Dutch and Belgian two-pin euro plugs often already fit in type C and sometimes also in type E, but that does not always apply to every plug or every situation. That's why an adapter or universal travel adapter is still a safe choice.

If you use an earthed plug at home or don't want to take any risk, it's useful to also check our pages about travel adapter Netherlands, travel adapter Belgium, travel adapter type C and travel adapter type E. That way you can quickly see how the situation in Djibouti compares to home.

Which plugs and sockets are used in Djibouti?

In Djibouti you'll mainly come across plug type C and plug type E. Type C is well known in large parts of Europe, and you'll also see type E a lot in countries with French influence. As a result, the electricity standard in Djibouti feels reasonably familiar to many European travelers.

For example, you'll also come across type E in France, Belgium, Algeria and Tunisia. Type C, in turn, is widely spread across many European destinations such as Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy and Greece.

Do you need a voltage converter in Djibouti?

Usually not. Djibouti uses 220 to 230 volts and 50 Hz, which is very similar to what you're used to in the Netherlands and Belgium. For modern devices such as phones, laptops, tablets and cameras, a converter is therefore usually not needed. An adapter also only changes the shape of the plug and does not convert the voltage.

To be safe, always check whether your charger is suitable for 100-240V. This is usually printed in small text on the adapter. With virtually all modern USB chargers this is no problem. Electrical Safety First also states that with dual-voltage devices you normally only need a travel adaptor.

Why a universal travel adapter is handy for Djibouti

A universal travel adapter is handy for Djibouti if you don't want any doubt about connecting your devices. Especially if you use multiple accommodations along the way or combine your trip with other countries, a universal adapter is often the most practical choice.

That applies even more if you combine Djibouti with other destinations in Africa or the Middle East. Think for example of Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Morocco, Tunisia, Chad, United Arab Emirates or India. Then one adapter for multiple situations is often the easiest.

Buying a travel adapter for Djibouti

A good travel adapter for Djibouti is compact, sturdy and easy to take along in your hand luggage or backpack. If you're only going to Djibouti, you can choose an adapter that works well with type C and type E. If you travel internationally more often, a universal travel adapter is usually the smartest choice.

For many travelers, Djibouti is also not the only destination. Maybe you combine your trip with Egypt, India, Tanzania or a transfer via France. Then a universal solution is extra practical.
