Travel plug Romania 🇷🇴

Heading to Romania? Then we have good news: you'll hardly ever need a travel plug for Romania. Romania uses the same sockets as the Netherlands (type C and F), with the same mains voltage. Your Dutch charger, phone and laptop simply plug right in.

Do you need a travel plug for Romania?

No, in most cases not.

Romania uses type C and F sockets, exactly the same as in the Netherlands. Your Dutch plugs simply fit into the socket, without an adapter. The mains voltage is also the same (230 volts, 50 Hz), so you don't need a voltage converter either.

A travel plug for Romania is therefore only useful when you:

  • bring a plug from another part of the world (for example an American charger)
  • make a multi-country trip where you also visit other countries
  • want to invest in advance in a world adapter for future trips
  • want extra USB and USB-C ports to charge multiple devices at once

Which type of socket does Romania have?

Romania uses two plug types, both identical to the Netherlands:

  • Type C: the familiar European flat plug with two round pins, without earthing
  • Type F: the Schuko plug with two round pins and earthing clips on the sides

These types are standard throughout Romania, from Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Brașov to remote guesthouses in Transylvania or the Carpathians. There are no regional differences.

When is a world adapter handy in Romania after all?

Although you don't need an adapter for Romania itself, a world adapter can still be useful in a few situations.

Are you combining Romania with another part of the world? For example a flight via the US or a stopover to the UK (type G), then you will encounter other sockets along the way. A world adapter covers all these types in one device.

Do you have an American or Asian charger? Then it does not fit into a Romanian socket without an adapter. In that case a travel plug converts your foreign plug to the European format.

Want to charge multiple devices at once? Besides the universal socket, the Remodius World Adapter also has USB-A and USB-C ports, so you can charge your phone, laptop, earbuds and power bank at the same time, handy in a hotel room or guesthouse with just one socket.

Power and voltage in Romania

The power supply in Romania is identical to that in the Netherlands.

  • Voltage: 230 volts
  • Frequency: 50 Hz
  • Compatible with Dutch devices: yes

So you don't need a voltage converter. All your Dutch devices, think of phone, laptop, camera, hairdryer and shaver, work without any problems.

Buying a travel plug for Romania

For a trip to Romania itself you don't need to buy a travel plug. But if you travel more often, a world adapter is an investment that quickly pays off. You have one for all destinations, with USB ports for multiple devices and compact enough for your hand luggage.

Travelling onward from Romania to, for example, the UK, the US, Asia or Australia? Then the Remodius World Adapter works there too, in 220+ countries.
