Which sockets are used in Tanzania?

In Tanzania, type D and type G sockets are used. Type D has three round pins in a triangular shape. Type G is the well-known British plug with three rectangular pins. Both types differ from the standard plugs that are common in the Netherlands.

If you are looking for more explanation about the different socket types, the pages about travel plug type D and travel plug type G are also relevant. They quickly show you why you need an adapter for Tanzania when you leave from the Netherlands.

Do you need a travel plug in Tanzania?

Yes, in Tanzania you need a travel plug. Dutch type C and F plugs do not fit directly into type D or G sockets. Without an adapter you therefore cannot use your chargers and other devices directly.

A universal travel adapter or separate travel adapter is therefore the most practical choice. Especially when you travel through Tanzania and stay overnight in different places, you do not want to depend on local solutions or an adapter that you only have to look for on the spot.

Do Dutch plugs fit in Tanzania?

No, Dutch plugs normally do not fit in Tanzania. In the Netherlands you usually use plug type C and F, while in Tanzania type D and G are used. That means you cannot properly connect your devices without an adapter.

That makes Tanzania a destination for which you really have to think about your power supply in advance. Especially if you want to charge cameras, power banks, laptops or phones every day, a suitable adapter is indispensable.

Do you need a voltage converter in Tanzania?

No, in most cases you do not need a voltage converter. Tanzania uses 230 volts at 50 Hz, which matches the Netherlands well. For most modern devices that is not a problem, certainly not if the charger or adapter states that it is suitable for 100-240V and 50/60Hz.

This applies, for example, to phones, laptops, tablets, camera chargers and other commonly used travel devices. It does remain wise to briefly check the label of your device before you leave, especially if you bring older or less common electronics.

Which travel plug is best for Tanzania?

For Tanzania, a universal travel adapter is usually the handiest choice. With it you are prepared for type D and G and you can often manage in other countries too. Especially for travellers who travel internationally more often, that is more practical than buying separate adapters every time.

If you travel outside Europe more often, pages such as travel plug South Africa, travel plug India and travel plug Egypt can also be relevant if you combine several destinations.

Buying a travel plug for Tanzania

Are you going to Tanzania soon? Then it is wise to make sure in advance that you bring the right adapter. Because Tanzania uses type D and G sockets, a Dutch plug is not sufficient. With a good universal travel adapter you avoid hassle and you can be sure that you can use your most important devices.
