Which sockets are used in Togo?

In Togo, type C and type E sockets are used. Type C has two round pins and type E is similar, but additionally has an earth pin in the socket. That system also occurs in a number of European countries.

If you are looking for more explanation about the different socket types, the pages about travel plug type C and travel plug type E are also relevant. They quickly show you why Togo is usually not a difficult destination for Dutch travellers when it comes to power and plugs.

Do you need a travel plug in Togo?

No, in most cases you do not need a travel plug in Togo. Dutch type C plugs fit into type C sockets, and type F plugs are in practice usually compatible with type E sockets. As a result you can connect many devices directly.

That makes Togo a fairly simple destination for travellers from the Netherlands. Especially for standard chargers of phones, laptops, cameras and other modern devices, there is a good chance you can manage without an extra adapter.

Do Dutch plugs fit in Togo?

Yes, Dutch plugs usually just fit in Togo. That is mainly because type C is present and type F generally works together with type E sockets. For most travellers that means a separate adapter is not necessary.

It is wise, though, to take into account differences per location. In older buildings or simple accommodations, sockets can be less firm or show some wear. That has nothing to do with the type of connection, but it does affect ease of use during your trip.

Do you need a voltage converter in Togo?

No, in most cases you do not need a voltage converter. In Togo 220 volts is used at 50 Hz. That is very close to the Dutch standard of 230 volts and 50 Hz. For modern devices that normally poses no problem, certainly not if the charger or adapter states that it is suitable for 100-240V and 50/60Hz.

This applies, for example, to phones, laptops, tablets, camera chargers and power banks. It is smart, though, to check the label of your device before you leave, especially if you bring older electronics or specific equipment.

Which plug is best for Togo?

For Togo only, you usually do not need an extra adapter. However, if you are travelling through several countries in West Africa or combining Togo with destinations where other socket types are used, a universal travel adapter can still be handy. Then you do not have to figure out again per destination what you need.

A compact universal travel adapter is particularly practical for travellers who travel internationally more often and prefer to bring one flexible solution rather than several separate adapters.

Buying a travel plug for Togo

Are you going to Togo soon? In most cases you do not need to bring a separate adapter, because Dutch plugs are usually just usable there. It does remain smart to check in advance which devices you are bringing and whether they are suitable for 220-230 volts.
