Which sockets are used in Tunisia?

In Tunisia, type C and type E sockets are used. Type C is the well-known plug with two round pins. Type E is similar, but additionally has an earth pin in the socket. This system also occurs in various European countries, which is why it usually feels familiar to Dutch travellers.

If you are looking for more explanation about the different socket types, the pages about travel plug type C and travel plug type E are also relevant. They quickly show you why Tunisia is usually not a complicated destination for Dutch travellers when it comes to power and plugs.

Do you need a travel plug in Tunisia?

No, in most cases you do not need a travel plug in Tunisia. The combination of type C and E, together with a mains voltage of 230 volts and a frequency of 50 Hz, makes Tunisia fairly simple for many Dutch travellers. Especially standard chargers of phones, laptops and cameras can usually be used without an extra adapter.

It is good, though, to take into account differences per accommodation. In older hotels or apartments the design of sockets can sometimes be slightly different. As a result, a universal travel adapter can still be handy as extra certainty, especially if you bring several devices.

Do Dutch plugs fit in Tunisia?

Yes, Dutch plugs usually just fit in Tunisia. Type C plugs in particular generally pose no problem. Many type F plugs also work in practice in type E sockets, although that can differ per socket. That is why most travellers from the Netherlands experience Tunisia as a destination where charging usually works without hassle.

That does not mean that every connection is always exactly the same. Especially in older accommodations or at less modern locations it can be smart to be slightly more prepared. For many travellers that is an extra reason to bring a compact adapter after all.

Do you need a voltage converter in Tunisia?

No, in most cases you do not need a voltage converter. Tunisia uses 230 volts at 50 Hz, just like the Netherlands. For modern devices that is therefore normally no problem. Think of phones, tablets, laptops, camera chargers and power banks.

To be safe, always check the label of your device before departure. If it says 100-240V and 50/60Hz, you can be sure that the device is suitable for use in Tunisia. In most cases you then need at most an adapter, and often not even that.

Which plug is best for Tunisia?

For Tunisia only, you usually do not need an extra adapter. However, if you travel outside Europe more often or simply want to be sure that you are prepared everywhere, a universal travel adapter can still be handy. With it you avoid having to figure out again on your trip which type of socket you come across.

If you travel to North Africa or Southern Europe more often, pages such as travel plug Morocco, travel plug Egypt and travel plug France can be relevant if you combine several destinations.

Buying a travel plug for Tunisia

Are you going to Tunisia soon? In most cases you do not need to bring a separate adapter, because Dutch plugs usually just work there. Still, it is smart to check in advance which devices you are bringing and whether you want to bring a compact adapter for extra certainty.
