Which sockets are used in Turkmenistan?

In Turkmenistan, type C and type F sockets are used. Type C is the well-known plug with two round pins. Type F also has two round pins, but additionally has earth clips on the side. These types also commonly occur in the Netherlands.

If you are looking for more explanation about the different socket types, the pages about travel plug type C and travel plug type F are also relevant. They quickly show you why Turkmenistan is usually not a difficult destination for Dutch travellers when it comes to power and plugs.

Do you need a travel plug in Turkmenistan?

No, in most cases you do not need a travel plug in Turkmenistan. Because type C and F are used there, Dutch plugs normally fit directly into the sockets. The frequency of 50 Hz is also the same as in the Netherlands.

That means you can usually use devices such as a phone charger, laptop charger, camera charger or power bank without an extra adapter. That is precisely why Turkmenistan is a fairly simple destination for travellers from the Netherlands on this point.

Do Dutch plugs fit in Turkmenistan?

Yes, Dutch plugs usually just fit in Turkmenistan. This applies to type C and F plugs, which are also standard in the Netherlands. In practice you can therefore usually connect your devices directly without having to bring an adapter.

Still, it is wise to take into account older accommodations or simpler buildings, where sockets can sometimes be a little less firm. That does not change the type of connection, but it can affect ease of use during your trip.

Do you need a voltage converter in Turkmenistan?

No, in most cases you do not need a voltage converter. In Turkmenistan the standard voltage is 220 volts at 50 Hz. That is close to the Dutch standard of 230 volts at 50 Hz. For modern devices that usually poses no problem, certainly not if the charger or adapter states that it is suitable for 100-240V and 50/60Hz.

This applies, for example, to phones, laptops, tablets, camera chargers and power banks. Before departure, always check the label of your device, though, especially if you bring older electronics or single-voltage equipment.

Which plug is best for Turkmenistan?

For Turkmenistan only, you usually do not need an extra adapter. However, if you are travelling through several countries in Central Asia or combining your trip with destinations where other socket types are used, a universal travel adapter can still be handy. That way you do not have to figure out again each time which type you need.

If you travel in Asia more often, pages such as travel plug India, travel plug China and travel plug Thailand can be relevant if you combine several destinations.

Buying a travel plug for Turkmenistan

Are you going to Turkmenistan soon? In most cases you do not need to bring a separate adapter, because Dutch plugs usually just work there. It does remain smart to check in advance which devices you are bringing and whether they are suitable for 220-230 volts.
