Travel plug Zimbabwe

Traveling to Zimbabwe and want to be sure you can charge your devices? Then the answer for travelers from the Netherlands is clear: yes, you need a travel adapter. In Zimbabwe, type D and type G sockets are used, while in the Netherlands we mainly have type C and type F. Without an adapter, your plugs won't fit (properly) into the socket.

Which sockets are used in Zimbabwe?

In Zimbabwe you'll usually come across these types:

  • Type D (3 round pins in a triangle)
  • Type G (UK plug with 3 rectangular pins)

Tip: Type G is the well-known British plug (often with a fuse in the plug). If you've already been to the UK and had an adapter for it, you're usually already set for type G.

Do Dutch plugs fit in Zimbabwe?

No. Dutch plugs type C/F do not fit in type D or type G sockets. So you need a travel adapter (ideally one that covers both D and G, or a universal adapter).

Voltage & frequency in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe runs on 50 Hz (just like the Netherlands), and the voltage is usually given by sources as 230V (sometimes 220–240V, depending on the publication and local grids). In practice this is “EU-like” and you don't need a voltage converter for most devices.

Usually safe without a converter:

  • phone charger, laptop, camera, power bank, toothbrush (almost always 100–240V, 50/60 Hz)

Just check the label of your charger:

  • “INPUT: 100–240V, 50/60 Hz” = usable everywhere, you then only need the right adapter.

Which travel adapter is most convenient for Zimbabwe?

You have roughly two smart options:

  1. Travel adapter to type G and type D: Handy if you're buying specifically for Zimbabwe and want to be sure you can handle both types.
  2. Universal adapter (universal): Smart if you travel more often. Preferably choose a model with USB-C/USB-A so you can charge multiple devices at once.
